The hospital has existed in Linz for over 250 years. As an acute hospital, it plays a central role in the care of medical emergencies in the region. For example, around 66% of all strokes from the greater area are treated there.

For more than 20 years, there has been close cooperation with the neighbouring Hospital of the Sisters of Mercy.
