Austria - working in the heart of Europe

The Republic of Austria is a small but very lovely and picturesque country with 9.1 million inhabitants in the heart of Europe. Its capital Vienna has almost 2 million inhabitants.

The unique nature of the Alpine Republic with snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear lakes and green forests, the delicious regional cuisine, the cultural heritage and diverse cultural offerings as well as the good working conditions make Austria a country with one of the highest living standards in the world.

The Hospitaller Brothers of Saint John of God
(
“Barmherzige Brüder”)
in Austria

The Brothers of St. John of God are a renowned provider of health and social care facilities. We operate seven hospitals, several care facilities, facilities for people with disabilities, pharmacies, a nursing school, a drug therapy ward and a spa. The Brothers of Saint John of God have a centuries-old tradition; after all, our first hospitals in Austria were founded more than 400 years ago.

About 100 professional groups, 7,500 dedicated employees and about 35 brothers provide their service to people. The nursing staff have different qualifications and are active in many fields of work.

Every year, there are approximately 116,000 inpatient admissions, more than 750,000 outpatient contacts and about 50,100 surgeries in all Austrian facilities. We try to find innovative answers to the challenges of the time and want to be pioneers in medicine and care.

We would love to hear from you if you are interested in being a part of this great mission!

Our philosophy and values

Our aim is to respect and value the individuality of every person. This forms the basis for a safe and familiar working environment. Innovative processes, short decision-making paths and our striving for continuous development make us a dynamic organisation. We observe the individual life situations of the employees and try to find joint solutions in harmony with operational requirements. We try to offer people the best possible care and treatment. Therefore staff members take joint responsibility for the design and further development of their work area.

We have pastoral care teams in all facilities to provide spiritual guidance to the people in our care. We also have ethics teams to make responsible decisions for the people entrusted to us in difficult situations.

Environmental and climate protection is a major concern for us. We are involved in these areas in many ways and are pioneers in Austria.

As co-workers of the Order, we combine professionalism with the order´s values hospitality, quality, respect, responsibility and spirituality.
